Any of you who saw me at the Carolingian 40th Anniversary I'm sure could see I was hobbling about, especially by the end of the night. Sunday we had to beg off from the memorial for
msmemory because I was pretty immobile. Well yesterday afternoon I finally had some of my orthopedic issues somewhat dealt with when I had the large bony growth removed from the back of my right heel. Surgery went well and I was home before it got dark yesterday evening! I can't say enough about the staff at Faulkner Hospital, everyone was so gracious and super nice. Once they got me poked and prodded and I had changed my clothes,
jdulac was able to sit with me until they rolled me away to surgery. The doc took off the large lumpy painful part of the growth on the right side of my foot but didn't mess too much with the left side so he didn't need to fiddle as much with my tendon, which was ok with me! I can't bear any weight on it and I have a plaster splint on the back of my foot and not a plastic boot after all. I'm actually ok with that because I really feel protected with that on there. I haven't had much pain (knock on wood) but the did send me home with percoset and ibuprofen which has been just fine for what ails me :). I will be on crutches for 4-6 weeks barring anything unforeseen. I took a percoset last night, mostly just to knock me out, but haven't felt the need for one is AM on top of the ibuprofen i've taken for inflammation. We'll see how it goes.
AFTERNOON UPDATE
Talked with the doctor a bit ago and he didn't actually have to detach the tendon, he just was able to remove the big bony lump to the right of it, but leave the tendon alone so that should make for an easier recovery. He also said that first day was the worst and the rest are less so. I've been keeping my foot up and been reading and have not had any pain. If it can keep going like this, i'll be right on track.
