Periodically we get enquiries here from library school students who are working on projects for their classes and they often involve questions of library management and the like. Yesterday I received a call from a pleasant woman in the MLS program at Syracuse University who was asking about our digitization projects. We've done several, both of photographs and archival materials, so I was able to answer in detail to all the questions she had on her questionnaire. We agreed to do a telephone followup this morning and had an excellent discussion of emerging trends in digitization along with other subjects. Unsurprisingly, she has begun to put out job feelers and we talked about the prospects for work in the Boston area because her husband is currently working in this neck of the while she and the family hold down the fort in central NY. She mentioned that she had worked part time for a while in an elementary school library, so I was prompted to ask which one, as my aunt was for many years the librarian at an elementary school in the Fayetteville-Manlius school system. She hadn't worked there but by an amazing coincidence, she had instead been employed at the school which was right across the street from my house! Who would have imagined it!
