I harvested my crop of hops after work yesterday. This is the 3rd year since I put in the root cutting and the 1st that I have had any significant growth of bines and crop of hop cones. I trained a bine along the chainlink fence between our yard and our neighbors as well as letting the bines find their way up into the cherry and holly trees. My yield was 2 1/2 dehydrator trays of cones. About half of those dried overnight and the rest I left in the drier today while I'm at work. They will all be frozen for winter brewing.
I am quite pleased with my harvest considering that, except for training the one bine along the fence, I have given them zero care. Also its encouraging that in spite of the fact that they were grown in part shade the cones were large and very lupuliny. Just think how they'd be if they were actually grown in the sun!
