Amazing evening
Feb. 15th, 2008 08:28 amWe hadn't treated ourselves on Valentine's Day in forever so last evening we hiked over to the Alchemist Lounge for their holiday do.
The meal was a prix fixe feast with a choice of lobster bisque, a bibb salad or duck confit with figs as the appetizer; salmon with seared beet greens, prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes, or eggplant Napoleon for the entrees and amazing desserts. We both chose bananas foster, but I remember bread pudding was one of the choices. The food was fantastic and the service was attentive but not at all rushed. We treated ourselves to one of their winter cocktails as well, a spiced sangria. It was very like a chilled hypocras and very delicious, we both had seconds! I finished my meal with a lovely sauterne.
The perfection continued at 10pm when the Todne Texiera Jazz Band began to play. I have to say that I had not heard such an excellent jazz group in ages. They we really swinging and Todne is a great vocal stylist. The numbers included: Route 66, At Last, When Lights are Low, Is You is or is You Ain't My Baby, amongst other favorites of mine.
