Sep. 22nd, 2006 03:46 pmIts been a while since I made a post so I think a short update is in order. I have spent the time since Pennsic in a mad frenzy of house cleaning and renovations in preparation for my parents annual trip north. This year they decided to stay on the Cape which also meant a visit to Boston so massive housework was in order.
We decided to not only clean the bedroom but also repaint and buy several IKEA wardrobes and a bed frame. It has made a huge difference but we still need to keep after the laundry! I especially wanted the bedroom to look nice because I knew my Mom was making us a quilt. She had completed it and it looks amazingly beautiful in the room. I want to get orangy-red curtains to pick up one of the colors in it. I also cleaned out the front room. We took a number of bins of fabric to storage but i still need to work more in there. Its still got an awful lot of junk! The rest of the house got a very through vacuuming and washing. I don't generally hold to new cleaning conveniences but I found that Windex makes these very useful wipes that come in a plastic container like baby wipes. They were a great help not only on the windows but on the woodwork as well and they made all the difference in the pantry. Through the summer we had been in the habit of leaving the upper part of the panty window open. I should have had my wits about me more because when the porch contractor began sanding all that dust came right in the house. The office still needs doing, it became a catchall in the last day before the big visit. I'd like to get new shelving units from IKEA that are taller than the ones we currently have. I'd also like to find some plastic bins about the size of banker's boxes to pack some books into for storage. I have a certain number of titles that I don't want to get rid of but I don't necessarily need right at hand.
The weekend before last we joined my folks on the Cape in Harwichport. We stayed a cottage belonging to my boss which was very conveniently located near the beach and Rte 28. One of the nights we were there we had dinner at new place on the main drag called The Port. If you find yourself down there at some point you really should try it, I think you will be impressed. We stayed through Tuesday and they stayed until Saturday. On Sunday we got together and we hiked them around Jamaica Pond, had a late brunch at Doyles and then continued our hiking at Forest Hills Cemetery. On Monday we went to the Aquarium and had a really nice time. They we then going to continue on thier trip up to NH and then out to central New York for my Dad's 55th high school reunion. Then it was visiting with friends and kin for another week and back to FL. I think they'll need a vacation from their vacation when they get back.
Tonight is date night and we're going to the unfinished furniture store in Everett to look for a wooden step stool to hold the cast iron stake plate I recently got for metal work. I have been doing nothing but cleaning up until now but since I'm done I want to start doing some stamping like I tried at Pennsic. To that end I have gotten some punches, a T-stake and stake plate and 2 anvils. The faces on the stake and anvils will need a bit of dressing but that shouldn't be too difficult.
That's about all that's new with me.
Here are several items that came to my attention recently:
