So, I have to preface this all by saying that [livejournal.com profile] jdulac and I have barely watched television for the past seven years. Occasionly, when there were noteworthy events occurring we'd tune in through the snow or if we were on a trip staying at a motel but otherwise we were definitely NOT watchers. That is until this weekend...

You see, about a week or so ago, J. was sweet-talked by a nice lady from Comcast who said if we subscribed to cable tv as well as our broadband internet from them we would actually pay about $8 less per month. In addition, as an "added bonus", we get premium cable for the first month as a special come on (better call and cancel that before the end of the month). Well, resistance was futile and we were assimilated. Saturday the cable guy came, ran the wire and hooked up the tv. Evidently he had his doubts as to how well this would work, our tv is pretty old, but make it work he did and voila! 990 channels at our fingertips!

Of course this doesn't mean we actually found much to watch on Saturday night. After we figured out how to use the remote (it comes with its own instruction book you know) we started on channel two and began to cycle through the stations. We had progressed quite a way when we found an old movie, Murder Ahoy! with Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. It was fun while it lasted but after about 15 minutes it was done. Then it was onward up the channels again pausing of a couple of minutes on Chisolm with John Wayne but that didn't attract and then on and on. When we got up into the 300s (who knew there were so many channels!) we found a peculiar, yet interesting movie. For the life of us we don't know what it was but it was set in old Japan (and in Japanese with subtitles) and was kind of a fantasy/sorcery kind of movie with magic and demons and stuff. We missed the very beginning but watched the better portion of it in the sort of transfixed manner that we often have when placed in front of a tv set.

After the movie was over, I continued on up the channels again just to see how many there were, 990 as it turned out. Its a shame there wasn't anything on![Unknown site tag]
